Palaeobotany (from either a Greek words paleon = old and votany = plant) is the branch of paleontology dealing with a recovery & identification of plant remains from geological contexts, and their utilize in the reconstruction of retiring environments. It shares a bit of most common ground by having palynology (the learn of spores & pollen) & is significant in the reconstruction of prehistoric ecological systems, called paleoecology. Inside the man context, it shares a bit of most common ground sustaining archaeology.

Remains of vascular plants are found in the fossil record from a Silurian period onwards, although it did non be important until a Late Devonian period. A few dispersed, fragmental fossils of confutable origin (spores, "tubes", & cuticles) keep close at hand too been detected around rocks from either a Ordovician Period. Plant-derived macrofossils include tree trunks, fronds, and roots.

Did the Wood Roach or Prototermite Cause the Permian-Triassic Coal Hiatus?
A symbiosis of the wood roach with a cellulose digesting protozoa probably caused Permian aridity and rise of conifers, and created the early Triassic coal hiatus.
